Rotron Technical Director Speaks at AUVSI UK Symposium

Alex Head, Technical Director of Rotron Power, delivered the opening presentation at AUVSI UK's Annual Symposium held at the UK Trade & Investment Defence & Security Organisation, Central London. Alex addressed the session on the Importance of Propulsion Systems in UAV Design.

Worldwide demand for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is on the rise. An estimated 100,000 small and mid-sized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are expected to be built and incorporated into the National Airspace System (NAS) in the next decade and beyond. With this expected growth over the coming years, Alex highlighted the importance of considering appropriate propulsion systems for those UAVs and outlined the complexities involved when dealing with multiple objectives which need to be evaluated & optimised at system level and earlier in the design cycle, based on the aircraft itself and its mission operating profile.

The AUVSI UK symposium, jointly organised by Rotron and the UKTI, featured speakers of the highest level and brought together experts, high-profile professionals, personnel from the MOD and key operators from the Army, Navy and RAF, and covered topics such as Export Controls, UK Maritime UAS Research and the Commercial UAS Regulatory Environment. The event was also a fantastic opportunity to network and discuss business synergies for members.
